  How a Small Hill Town in Parbat Became the Stage for Nepal's Newest Film Movement For four days in the winter of 2078 B.S., the quiet cinema hall of Kushma, a small municipality tucked into the hills of Parbat district, became something it had never been before: a national gathering point for Nepali cinema. Between Poush 7 and Poush 10 (December 22 to 25, 2021), the First Dhaulagiri Film Festival turned Shiddheshwar Chalchitra Mandir into a stage for more than thirty films, over four hundred local artists, and a handful of Kathmandu's most recognized names in the film industry. It was, by any measure, an unlikely story. Dhaulagiri — the mountainous zone encompassing Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, and Mustang — is better known internationally for its trekking routes than its film industry.
