He is known for his work in independent Nepali cinema, particularly for films such as 7Boys (2014), Bhram (2016), Happy (2021), and the upcoming superhero film Ahuri (set to release in 2026). His works often incorporate elements of Nepali culture, mythology, social themes, and experimental storytelling.

Early Life and Background

Bishal Lohani was born in Parbat District, Nepal, in 1994. From an early age, he developed an interest in storytelling and cinema. His creative interests were influenced by Nepali rural culture, mythology, and contemporary film narratives.

Career

Early Career and Debut (2014)

Lohani began his professional career in the Nepali film industry as an assistant director, working on several projects where he gained practical experience in filmmaking.

In 2014, he made his debut as both actor and writer with the film 7Boys. The film received critical and commercial attention and was later screened at the Dhaulagiri Film Festival 2021.

Bhram (2016)


In 2016, Lohani wrote and directed Bhram (The Confusion), a psychological thriller exploring themes related to human perception and mental complexity. The film was recognized for its experimental narrative style and was also screened at the Dhaulagiri Film Festival 2021.

Ahuri (Shot 2018, Scheduled Release 2026)


Lohani’s most ambitious project to date is Ahuri, a film shot in 2018 and scheduled for release in 2026. The film is described as a supernatural masala drama incorporating elements of Nepali mythology, village culture, and science fiction fantasy.

Ahuri has been referred to as one of Nepal’s early superhero-themed cinematic concepts, combining traditional storytelling with modern fantasy elements.

Happy and Other Works (2021)

In 2021, Lohani directed Happy, an inspirational silent film focusing on hope and positivity. The film was noted for its minimal dialogue and emotional storytelling and was screened at the Dhaulagiri Film Festival 2021.
