7 Boys- Release 2014
Introduction
7 BOYS (Seven Boys) is a Nepali coming-of-age drama that explores friendship, first love, family struggle, class division, and sacrifice through the eyes of seven school friends from Kushma, Parbat. Written by Bishal Lohane (also spelled Bishal Lohani), who also plays the film's central character Radhe, 7 BOYS stands as one of the earliest and most personal projects in Bishal Lohane's filmmaking journey — long before he went on to direct socially conscious work like CHHUWACHHUT.
Produced by Pratiphal Films, 7 BOYS began production in September 2014 and went on to screen across Kushma, Baglung, Banaun, Salija, Beni, and Pokhara throughout 2015, before returning to the screen at The First Dhaulagiri Film Festival 2021.
The Story: Friendship, Class, and First Love in Rural Nepal
7 BOYS follows seven inseparable school friends — Radhe, Anmol, Aryan, Nabin, Sabin, Gaurab, and Dipsan — as they navigate the ordinary and extraordinary moments of growing up: classroom humor, teenage rivalry, dreams for the future, and first love.
At the emotional center of the story is Radhe (played by Bishal Lohane), a boy from a financially struggling, single-mother household. When Radhe falls in love with Anjeela, a girl from a wealthy family, the film opens up its central themes — social class, family pressure, poverty, love across economic divides, and the sacrifices people make for those they love.
This portrait of class division would go on to resurface throughout Bishal Lohane's later work, making 7 BOYS an important early blueprint for the social themes he continued to explore in future projects.
Bishal Lohane's Role: Writer, Story Creator, and Lead Actor
Long before taking on directing responsibilities, Bishal Lohane (Bishal Lohani) was already working across multiple creative roles on 7 BOYS:
- Story, Dialogue & Screenplay: Bishal Lohane
- Lead Actor: Bishal Lohane as Radhe
- Lyrics Contributor: Bishal Lohane (alongside Ganga Bibash RC and Everest Gahatraj)
- Posture/Production Support: Bishal Lohane
- Assistant Director: Bishal Lohane(with Kishan B.C.)
This multi-disciplinary involvement — writing, acting, and production support all at once — reflects the same hands-on filmmaking approach Bishal Lohane would carry into later Pratiphal Films and Aahuri Entertainment projects.
The Real-Life Friendship Behind the Seven Boys
What makes 7 BOYS feel authentic on screen is that the seven characters were played by seven real-life friends: Bishal Lohane, Subash G.C., Bhakta Khorja, Sagar Basel, Sujit Pun, Kishan B.C., and Bishan Ghimire. Their shared history, natural chemistry, and genuine friendship — rather than staged casting — gave the film its lived-in warmth and made the on-screen bond between the seven boys feel real.
7 BOYS Screening Timeline (2015–2021)
7 BOYS reached audiences through a grassroots, community-driven screening tour across western Nepal — a distribution model common to independent Nepali cinema of the time.

Why 7 BOYS Matters in Bishal Lohane's Filmmaking Journey
7 BOYS represents the starting point of a creative journey that Pratiphal Films and Bishal Lohane have continued to build on — one rooted in authentic, community-based Nepali storytelling. The film's grassroots, town-to-town screening tour across Kushma, Baglung, Banaun, Salija, Beni, and Pokhara reflects the independent spirit of early 2010s Nepali regional cinema, made possible by local friends, artists, schools, and community clubs rather than large studio distribution.
The story's core theme — a poor boy's friendship and love across the class divide — also foreshadows the social consciousness that would later define Bishal Lohane's work as a writer and director, from Seti Didi and Kale Bhai to CHHUWACHHUT.
